The Triad Method of Tapping in Pepper's life
Physical challenges and a bout of vicarious trauma from her crisis intervention work while at UC Berkeley, brought Pepper to EFT (Triad Method). She has worked with violence prevention and response for many years, both with those doing harm and those who have been harmed.
Pepper began to explore how simply what we tell ourselves can be emotionally violent and lead to great harm. The Triad Method of Tapping has been for her an emotional normalizer in her own life, in working through to the core of fear, stress, and overwhelm bringing her insights and connections from otherwise unconscious material, allowing Pepper to achieve greater self awareness, insight, and self empathy.
Triad can un-sandwich layers of related memories and associations, allowing a person to deepen awareness of the root cause of emotional turbulence, and in becoming aware of these connections, respond to healing emotional "hauntings" with the archetypal healing codes of biocognitive science utilized through Tapping.
After studying with those teaching traditional EFT, including working on a shoulder pain study with the originator of traditional EFT, Gary Craig, Pepper found a most effective method in the biocognitive science based Triad Method with acknowledgment of our cultural programming, based on the work of Dr. Mario Martinez, and Dr. George Solomon, cultural psychoneuroimmunologists.
Pepper says, "The Triad Method has informed my success in working with individuals recovering from PTSD, with the emotional imbalances of abuse, in addition to assisting with physical conditions such as acting as an aid in reversal of atrial fibrillation (not a cure for) once it has begun. One example of many her life is she states "I used Triad to permanently cure myself of the habit of grinding my teeth in sleep, a habit since childhood."
Triad Tapping is useful for combating aberrant, experiential and culturally programmed, or ideologically driven "threat-detection" reactive behaviors. It does so by interrupting the fight-flight-freeze amygdala "hijack" and calming the body so that problem-solving can begin by activating the prefrontal cortex, the present-tense, discerning region of the human brain.
EFT is being used in everything from schools to psychiatric hospitals and Pepper herself has used Triad in the wake of a mass shooting in Gilroy to calm the nerves of a classroom of a child who had been killed. Harvard Medical School Chairman recommended EFT be used in Newtown, Connecticut in the wake of the Sandy Hook massacre in 2012. This acupuncture meridian point tapping technique, originating from acupressure techniques of ancient China, has been used successfully all over the world, including Haiti, Rwanda, Indonesia, and continues to be used by and taught to millions.
Pepper is grateful to the work of many individuals, some of whom were of particular influence in the development of Triad, including Sarah Peyton, Mario Martinez and Marshall Rosenberg, Jaya, Jori, and Jim Manske, David Morton, Heike Prevrhal, Margaret Starbuck, Alexander Black and others too numerous to name. Bringing the Triad Method into existence as a more potent version of clinical EFT, is a result of many who have contributed to developing EFT, as our knowledge expands in the sciences, in particular neuroscience. We are biological beings, and our understanding is being shaped by evidence that we can change our own biology and the biology of others.
"My work in restorative justice has given me insight into how peace begins inside ourselves. As Martin Luther King famously noted that peace is not just the lack of conflict it is the presence of justice.
Peace internally and externally is therefore maintained by listening to one's own body, mind, and spirit".
Pepper states that "In thinking of my work as peacemaking, it is accomplished by you and I commiting to the process of supporting a return to balance and peace, first in your own body, with you leading the way by empowering yourself through restorative techniques such as the Triad Method, to better utilize your internal resources. Other restorative techniques can then be applied for greater external environmental peace"
